How long does a RAV4 Hybrid battery last? What to know before buying one with 100,000+ miles

Which hybrid battery each 2019 to 2026 RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Prime has, how long Toyota's battery warranty lasts and whether it moves to the next owner, what a new battery costs, and the checks to do on a used RAV4 Hybrid before you buy it.

So on a 2019 to 2025 RAV4 Hybrid, the big hybrid battery usually isn't the part that wears out, even past 100,000 miles. The federal government's complaint records show no pattern of worn-out hybrid batteries. The bigger risk on a high-mileage 2019 to 2024 RAV4 Hybrid AWD, meaning all-wheel drive, or a 2021 to 2024 RAV4 Prime is a corroded high-voltage cable under the car. Toyota covers that cable repair under a free program called 22TE09. Toyota's hybrid battery warranty is 8 years or 100,000 miles on a 2019 RAV4 Hybrid. On a 2020 to 2026 RAV4 Hybrid, every RAV4 Prime and the 2026 Plug-in Hybrid, the hybrid battery warranty is 10 years or 150,000 miles. And both of those hybrid battery warranties move to the next owner for free. And if the hybrid battery in a 2019 to 2025 RAV4 Hybrid ever needs replacing, a new genuine Toyota battery costs about $2,650 to $2,700 online, plus labor. That's the price as of October 15, 2026.

Quick picks

So if you're shopping for a used RAV4 Hybrid with 100,000 miles or more, the hybrid battery is probably the first thing you're worried about. And if you drive 25,000 to 50,000 miles a year, you'll pass the 150,000-mile battery warranty on a 2020 or newer RAV4 Hybrid in three to six years. However, the truth is that the hybrid battery is rarely what goes wrong on a 2019 to 2025 RAV4 Hybrid. So in this guide I'll go over which hybrid battery each RAV4 Hybrid has and how long the battery warranty lasts. I'll also cover how long the hybrid batteries actually last and what a new one costs. And then I'll go through exactly what to check on a used RAV4 Hybrid.

What the hybrid battery is, and how it's different from the 12-volt battery

So a RAV4 Hybrid has two batteries, and people mix the two up all the time.

Basically, the RAV4 Hybrid charges its own hybrid battery from the gas engine and from slowing down, so you never plug a RAV4 Hybrid in. So this whole page is about the big hybrid battery, not the 12-volt. If you want the basics of how a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid work, I explain that in my 2019 to 2025 Hybrid vs Prime vs bZ4X guide.

Which hybrid battery each RAV4 has, by year and trim

So Toyota has used two kinds of hybrid battery in the RAV4 Hybrid. Basically, a nickel-metal hydride battery, or NiMH, is the older, proven kind Toyota has used in its hybrids for years. A lithium-ion battery, or Li-ion, is smaller and lighter and holds more charge. And a kWh, or kilowatt-hour, is basically how much energy a battery holds. The table below shows which hybrid battery each RAV4 Hybrid trim has, year by year.

2026Every 2026 RAV4 Hybrid trim has a Li-ion battery, with no NiMH. Toyota USA hasn't published the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid battery's size.2026 Plug-in Hybrid SE, XSE, Woodland and GR SPORT: 22.7 kWh Li-ion, per Toyota Canada

And something to note is that the NiMH battery in the RAV4 Hybrid runs at 244.8 volts, and the Li-ion battery in the RAV4 Hybrid runs at 259 volts. The RAV4 Prime's 18.1 kWh battery runs at 355.2 volts. If you want to see what else changes between the RAV4 Hybrid trims, my RAV4 trims guide goes through every trim.

Which hybrid battery the 2020 RAV4 Hybrid XSE and Limited have isn't 100% settled. Toyota's 2020 brochure and the 2020 RAV4 Hybrid owner's manual both say every 2020 RAV4 Hybrid has the NiMH battery. But Toyota's 2020 spec book says the 2020 RAV4 Hybrid has a Li-ion battery, and Toyota's parts catalog lists a 2020 Limited under the Li-ion battery. For me personally, the brochure and the owner's manual are the ones to trust, so I'd treat every 2019 and 2020 RAV4 Hybrid as NiMH. But Toyota may have switched the 2020 Limited to the Li-ion battery partway through the year. So check the model code on the driver's door jamb to be sure.

How to tell which hybrid battery a 2019 to 2025 RAV4 Hybrid has, in 10 seconds

So you don't need any tools to tell which hybrid battery a 2019 to 2025 RAV4 Hybrid has. The model code is printed on the Certification Regulation Label. The Certification Regulation Label is the sticker on the driver's door jamb, the edge of the car's body you see when you open the driver's door.

  1. Open the driver's door and find the Certification Regulation Label on the door jamb.
  2. Look for the model code on the Certification Regulation Label.
  3. If the model code reads AXAH54L, that RAV4 Hybrid has the NiMH battery.
  4. If the model code reads AXAL54L, that RAV4 Hybrid has the Li-ion battery.

And on a 2026 RAV4 Hybrid, the model code reads AXAL62L, and every 2026 RAV4 Hybrid has the Li-ion battery.

Does a NiMH or a Li-ion battery last longer?

So there's no data yet showing that the NiMH battery or the Li-ion battery lasts longer in a RAV4 Hybrid. Basically, NiMH is the proven, durable kind, and Li-ion is smaller and lighter. Where the two hybrid batteries really differ for a used buyer is how you can get them fixed. Independent shops already rebuild NiMH hybrid batteries for older Toyota hybrids. But there's no known shop rebuilding the Li-ion RAV4 Hybrid battery or the RAV4 Prime battery so far. So replacing a Li-ion battery would most likely mean a new Toyota battery.

The RAV4 Hybrid battery warranty by year, and whether it transfers

So Toyota's hybrid battery warranty depends on the model year. Toyota raised the battery warranty for every 2020 Toyota hybrid, and every model year since has kept the longer battery warranty. The other hybrid parts, like the inverter and the computers that run the hybrid system, kept the shorter warranty. And Toyota's paid Platinum repair plan doesn't cover the hybrid battery pack, so the factory battery warranty is the coverage that counts. My Toyota extended warranty guide explains what Platinum does cover.

Model yearHybrid battery warrantyOther hybrid parts (inverter, converter and the hybrid and battery control computers)Moves to the next owner?
2019 RAV4 Hybrid8 years or 100,000 miles8 years or 100,000 milesYes
2020 to 2025 RAV4 Hybrid10 years or 150,000 miles8 years or 100,000 milesYes
2021 to 2025 RAV4 Prime and Plug-in Hybrid10 years or 150,000 miles8 years or 100,000 milesYes
2026 RAV4 Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid10 years or 150,000 miles8 years or 100,000 milesYes

Each warranty ends at whichever limit comes first, the years or the miles. And yes, the hybrid battery warranty moves to the next owner for free, so it covers the first owner and every owner after that.

Now here's the part a lot of used buyers miss. The warranty clock starts on the in-service date, which is the day the car was first sold new, not on January 1 of the model year. So a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid first sold in mid-2021 has battery coverage until mid-2031, if it's still under 150,000 miles. You can get the in-service date from any Toyota dealer by giving them the VIN, which is the car's vehicle identification number. The in-service date is also in the car's Warranty and Maintenance Guide.

And keep in mind, if you drive 50,000 miles a year, a 2020 or newer RAV4 Hybrid hits 150,000 miles in about three years. So for a high-mileage driver, the miles run out long before the 10 years do.

Something to note on a 2019 RAV4 Hybrid is that the battery coverage may be longer in some states. That applies if the 2019 was sold in a state that follows California's emissions rules. That longer coverage would come from the emissions warranty. But the longer coverage isn't confirmed by Toyota, so ask a Toyota dealer with the VIN before you count on it.

And if you're looking at a Toyota Certified Used RAV4 Hybrid, Toyota Certified has two levels. A Gold Certified RAV4 gets a powertrain warranty good for 7 years or 100,000 total miles on the odometer, plus 12 months or 12,000 miles of comprehensive coverage. A Silver Certified RAV4 only gets 12 months or 12,000 miles of powertrain coverage, and no comprehensive coverage. Toyota's fine print counts the Gold 7 years from the day the certified car is bought, but some Toyota dealers say the 7 years count from the day the car was first sold new. So ask the dealer for the Toyota Certified warranty booklet, because that booklet decides when the 7 years start. Either way, Toyota Certified doesn't add anything to the hybrid battery. The hybrid battery is still covered by the original factory battery warranty in the table above. I go through what Toyota Certified is worth in my used RAV4 buying guide.

The cable problem that gets blamed on the battery (Toyota program 22TE09)

So if you're buying a 2019 to 2024 RAV4 Hybrid AWD or a 2021 to 2024 RAV4 Prime, a corroded high-voltage cable is what I'd actually worry about, more than hybrid battery wear. Owners call the cable problem "Cablegate." My RAV4 Hybrid cable corrosion guide covers the warning signs, Toyota's free fixes and how to check a VIN.

Basically, a bundle of high-voltage wires and the cable to the rear electric motor run under the car. Water, mud and road salt can corrode the cable's connectors. And then the hybrid system shows warnings that look like a hybrid battery problem. Toyota covers the cable repair under Customer Support Program 22TE09, which is basically a free repair Toyota offers for that one problem.

So the free step is to run the VIN on Toyota's recall and campaign lookup. Then ask a Toyota dealer whether 22TE09 and 25TD01 are both done on the RAV4 you're looking at. And if 25TD01 isn't done yet, getting 25TD01 done is what gets you the longer 22TE09 coverage. The cable problem also comes up in my guide to the RAV4 years to avoid.

How long RAV4 Hybrid batteries actually last

So here's the honest picture. The 2019 and newer RAV4 Hybrid is still young, so nobody has a big pile of 300,000-mile RAV4 Hybrids to point at yet. But so far, nothing points to worn-out hybrid batteries in the 2019 and newer RAV4 Hybrid.

What the federal complaint and recall data shows

What taxi fleets and Toyota technicians say

Now there's no taxi, rideshare or police fleet battery data for the RAV4 Hybrid yet. So the closest fleet data is the Prius, which uses the same family of Toyota hybrid system with a NiMH battery. Keep in mind this is Prius data, not RAV4 data.

What RAV4 Hybrid owners report past 100,000 miles

So owner reports aren't verified, but here's what RAV4 Hybrid owners are saying. Two owners of 2019 or newer RAV4 Hybrids past 100,000 miles commented on Torque News. One owner, James, has a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid at 197,282 miles still getting about 45 mpg. Another owner, Greg, has two 2021 RAV4 Hybrids at 128,000 and 111,000 miles. And one of Greg's RAV4 Hybrids needed the free 22TE09 cable repair. A post on RAV4World, an owner forum, also mentions a friend's RAV4 Hybrid at 128,000 miles with no hybrid battery problem.

Now there's no confirmed 2019 or newer RAV4 Hybrid at 300,000 miles on its original battery yet. But owners of other Toyota hybrids, mostly the Prius and the Lexus RX400h, report original batteries at 230,000 to 386,000 miles. And one Lexus CT200h courier car reached 629,000 miles on its original battery.

What the iSeeCars lifespan numbers really mean

So you might see a September 2026 study from iSeeCars that gives the RAV4 Hybrid a 5.9% chance of reaching 250,000 miles. That compares with 7.9% for the gas RAV4 and 11.5% for the Prius and Camry Hybrid. But keep in mind the 5.9% is about the whole car staying on the road, not the hybrid battery. And the RAV4 Hybrids in that study are a younger group of cars, so fewer RAV4 Hybrids have had time to reach 250,000 miles. And iSeeCars' RAV4 Hybrid page, read October 15, 2026, says a RAV4 Hybrid lasts about 169,830 miles, or 13.9 years, with a 28.6% chance of reaching 200,000 miles. My guide to getting a RAV4 to 200,000 miles covers what high-mileage owners report.

How the RAV4 Prime's battery holds up

So the RAV4 Prime is different. As a RAV4 Prime's battery slowly holds less charge, you see the loss as fewer electric miles. The only RAV4 Prime battery data so far comes from owners with fairly low miles. Owners charging from empty on a Level 2 charger, the 240-volt kind, report about 14 to 14.5 kWh going in when their RAV4 Prime was new. After about two years and 44,000 miles, those owners report about 13.3 to 13.6 kWh. Some energy is lost while charging, and heating the cabin uses some too, so treat the owners' kWh numbers as rough. So there are no RAV4 Prime battery reports past 100,000 miles yet.

Signs a RAV4 Hybrid's battery is getting weak

So a weak hybrid battery usually shows up slowly, not all at once.

But keep in mind, The Car Care Nut warns that a sudden drop in mileage is often something else, like a brake that's stuck partly on. So have a mechanic find the real cause before anyone sells you a hybrid battery.

And something worth knowing is that sitting unused for months hurts a hybrid battery. The Car Care Nut says cars that sat for 3 to 6 months at a time, again and again, are one of the two main places their shop sees hybrid batteries fail. Toyota service bulletin T-SB-0043-16 says to turn the hybrid system on for 30 minutes every two months when a Toyota hybrid is in storage. So the lowest-mileage used RAV4 Hybrid isn't automatically the best one.

The battery air filter, the first thing to check

So the hybrid battery stays cool by pulling air from the cabin through a vent and filter. On a 2019 to 2026 RAV4 Hybrid, that battery air intake sits under the right side of the back seat. The Car Care Nut calls a clogged battery air filter the number one cause of hybrid battery failure. That's because pet hair and dust from the cabin build up on the battery air filter.

The battery air filter cover comes off with a Phillips screwdriver, and the Morozov Automotive video further down shows the whole job on a RAV4 Hybrid.

What a new RAV4 Hybrid battery costs

So here's what genuine Toyota hybrid batteries cost from online Toyota parts dealers. The list price is Toyota's suggested price, and the online price is what the parts dealer was actually charging. I checked all these prices on October 15, 2026. But prices change, so check the link before you budget.

2026 RAV4 Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid battery2026No part number or price is listed so far.

And none of the parts dealer pages for the 2019 and newer RAV4 Hybrid batteries showed a core charge. A core charge is basically a refundable deposit you pay until you send back the old part. And Toyota doesn't appear to sell a remanufactured, meaning factory-rebuilt, hybrid battery for any RAV4.

What the labor adds

So there's no official Toyota labor time to go on for replacing a RAV4 Hybrid battery. But Fred Anderson Toyota quotes about 5 hours of labor on a Prius. And they say the RAV4 and Camry are "almost in lock step" with the Prius on battery and labor price. Greentec Auto, an independent hybrid battery shop, says labor runs $500 to $1,000.

So for a 2019 to 2025 RAV4 Hybrid, I'd estimate roughly $3,500 to $5,000 for a genuine Toyota battery installed at a dealer. Keep in mind that's only my estimate, not a quote. The range depends on how much the dealer marks up the part and charges per hour. The Car Care Nut puts a typical Toyota hybrid battery at $3,000 to $5,000 with parts, labor and tax, which lands in the same range.

Now you'll see scarier numbers online. SlashGear says $3,000 to $8,000 for a new battery, and TopSpeed says $5,000 to $8,000 at a dealer. But those are article estimates, not real quotes. And since 2020 and newer RAV4 Hybrids are still under battery warranty, there isn't a single real dealer quote to go on for a 2019 or newer RAV4 Hybrid battery.

And the RAV4 Prime is a very different story. The RAV4 Prime's battery part alone costs about $12,555 online, compared with about $2,650 for a regular RAV4 Hybrid battery. RAV4 Prime owners on forums mention about $10,000 plus labor. And one owner said a dealer salesperson quoted about $5,000, so expect a wide range.

Independent, rebuilt and used batteries

So here's the catch with cheaper batteries. Almost every independent or rebuilt RAV4 Hybrid battery for sale fits the older 2016 to 2018 RAV4 Hybrid, not a 2019 or newer RAV4 Hybrid. And the Ace Hybrid Group battery sold as a 2019 to 2023 RAV4 Hybrid battery looks wrong. I'm listing these batteries so you know what you're looking at, and so you don't buy a battery that won't fit.

And as I mentioned, no shop I know of repairs or rebuilds the Li-ion RAV4 Hybrid battery or the RAV4 Prime battery yet. Fred Anderson Toyota doesn't replace the individual cells a hybrid battery is built from, because the dealer can't guarantee that work. And The Car Care Nut advises against batteries with swapped cells. So for a 2019 or newer RAV4 Hybrid, the genuine Toyota battery is the realistic option right now.

How to check the battery on a used RAV4 Hybrid before you buy

So the plain truth is that there's no quick, reliable "battery health percentage" test a buyer can do on a 2019 to 2025 RAV4 Hybrid. The Car Care Nut says the car's own computer watches the battery better than any app, and the only true test is taking the battery apart. Toyota USA also doesn't offer a printed battery health report. Toyota UK has a Hybrid Health Check for £39, but there's no US version.

But you can still learn a lot, and most of these checks are free. Here's the order I'd go in.

Step 1: Free checks on the test drive

  1. Read the model code on the driver's door jamb. AXAH54L means the NiMH battery, and AXAL54L means the Li-ion battery.
  2. Look for hybrid warnings on the dash when you start the car and while you drive.
  3. Watch the hybrid battery gauge in town. On a healthy battery, the gauge moves up and down as you slow down and speed up. A gauge stuck in the bottom bar or two is a warning sign.
  4. Check the battery air filter under the right side of the back seat. Ask the seller if you can remove the cover with a Phillips screwdriver. A filter packed with dust or pet hair tells you the RAV4 Hybrid wasn't well looked after.
  5. Turn on the AM radio in Drive and in Reverse on a 2019 to 2024 RAV4 Hybrid AWD. Static can point to the corroded cable from program 22TE09.

Step 2: Free checks with the VIN

  1. Run the VIN on Toyota's recall and campaign lookup to see any recalls that haven't been fixed yet, and whether 22TE09 and 25TD01 are done. You can also check recalls on NHTSA's recall lookup.
  2. Call any Toyota dealer's service desk with the VIN and ask for the in-service date, so you know how much battery warranty is left in years and miles.

Step 3: A paid hybrid system scan at a Toyota dealer

So a Toyota dealer's hybrid system scan is the closest thing to a real hybrid battery check. Ask a Toyota service desk for a hybrid system scan with Techstream. Techstream is basically the software Toyota dealers use to read the car's computers. Ask for a printout of three things:

Expect to pay about one hour of diagnostic labor for the hybrid system scan, going by one Lexus owner's report in the US. But keep in mind the hybrid system scan isn't a published Toyota USA service, so the price varies by dealer. And it isn't confirmed that every Toyota dealer will scan a RAV4 you haven't bought, so ask before you book.

And if you'd rather read the car's computers yourself, Toyota does sell Techstream through a Toyota TIS subscription. A TIS subscription with Techstream is $80 for 2 days or $1,500 a year, as of October 15, 2026. But Techstream also needs a special cable and a Windows computer, so it's really a shop tool.

Step 4: Phone apps and OBD adapters, for tinkerers

So there are phone apps that read hybrid battery data through an OBD adapter. Basically, an OBD, or on-board diagnostics, adapter is a small plug that goes into the port under the dashboard and talks to your phone over Bluetooth. But keep in mind, none of the phone apps below gives you a trustworthy pass or fail on a RAV4 Hybrid battery. So I'd treat the apps' readings as extra information, not a verdict. Prices below were checked October 15, 2026.

And here are the OBD adapters the phone apps above recommend, with prices checked October 15, 2026:

So ultimately, if you're on Android and curious, Doctor Hybrid with its Toyota plugin is the cheapest way to see block voltages on a RAV4 Hybrid. But otherwise, the dealer scan in Step 3 is the better use of your money.

Checking a used RAV4 Prime

So battery health matters a lot more on a used RAV4 Prime, because the RAV4 Prime's battery part costs about $12,555 online, checked October 15, 2026. And no phone app is confirmed to show RAV4 Prime battery health yet. Here's what RAV4 Prime owners do instead:

Checking a 2026 RAV4 Hybrid or Plug-in Hybrid

So the 2026 RAV4 is too new for anyone to know how its hybrid battery holds up over time. And no phone app supports the 2026 RAV4's hybrid battery yet. A Toyota dealer's Techstream scan is the only way to look at a 2026 RAV4's hybrid battery. But every 2026 RAV4's hybrid battery is still under the 10-year or 150,000-mile warranty anyway. The 2026 RAV4 Hybrid's battery air intake is still under the right side of the back seat. And for the 2026 Plug-in Hybrid, check recall 26V659000, which covers the computer that controls the motor generators. If you're deciding between years, my 2026 vs 2025 RAV4 guide covers the bigger differences between the two.

When to walk away

So keep in mind it's completely fine to walk away from a used RAV4 Hybrid. I'd keep looking if the seller won't let you check the battery air filter or get a dealer scan. I'd also keep looking if hybrid warnings are on. And on a 2019 to 2024 RAV4 Hybrid AWD, I'd walk away if the 22TE09 cable repair hasn't been done and the seller won't get it done.

Videos worth watching on RAV4 Hybrid battery life

How To Make Your Toyota Hybrid Last Over 300,000 Miles, from The Car Care Nut, August 2026, 22 minutes.

A Toyota and Lexus specialist shop owner explains why most Toyota hybrid batteries outlast the car, and what kills the ones that don't. They talk about Toyota hybrids in general, not the RAV4 specifically.

  • How long batteries last: They say their shop replaces very few hybrid batteries, and 300,000 miles on the original battery is realistic.
  • The battery air filter: They call a clogged battery cooling fan or filter the number one cause of battery failure, because of pet hair and dust. And they say to find and check the battery air filter right away.
  • The two failure patterns: They see failures at extreme high mileage and on cars left sitting for 3 to 6 months at a time.
  • Testing: They say no app can truly test the battery, and the early signs are dropping mileage, a gauge stuck in the bottom bar and shorter electric driving.
  • Other maintenance: They recommend changing the inverter and engine coolant every 5 years or 50,000 miles, and the transmission fluid every 60,000 to 90,000 miles.
Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (2019-2025): Hybrid HV Battery Air Filter. How To Remove And Clean?, from Morozov Automotive, July 2021, 5 minutes.

Morozov Automotive shows exactly where the RAV4 Hybrid's battery air filter is and how to clean it, the same way Toyota's owner's manual describes.

  • Where the filter is: They show the battery air filter under the back seat of a RAV4 Hybrid.
  • Getting to the filter: They remove one Phillips clip and the cover, then unclip the filter in the order Toyota gives.
  • Cleaning: They vacuum the filter, and warn never to use water because of the fire risk.
  • Why the filter matters: They explain that a clogged filter limits charging, electric driving and gas mileage, and bring up the "Maintenance Required for Traction Battery Cooling Parts" message.
Should You Worry About The Hybrid Battery In Your Toyota Hybrid?, from The Car Care Nut, January 2025, 32 minutes.

The Car Care Nut replaces a second-generation Prius battery at over 200,000 miles and talks through what used hybrid buyers should know.

  • Testing: They say there's no quick, accurate battery test.
  • Cost: They put a typical replacement at $3,000 to $5,000 with parts, labor and tax.
  • The youngest hybrid battery their shop has replaced: The youngest hybrid battery their shop has replaced was in a 2013 Avalon at 197,000 miles.
  • Warranty: They confirm the 10-year or 150,000-mile battery warranty on 2020 and newer Toyota hybrids.
  • Buying used: They warn against chasing the lowest-mileage used hybrid and against batteries with swapped cells.
How Much to Replace Toyota Hybrid Battery? Expert explains costs, life, from Fred Anderson Toyota, October 2023, 9 minutes.

Service staff at a Toyota dealer walk around a 2023 RAV4 LE Hybrid and explain how often they really replace hybrid batteries. The service manager also points out that the RAV4 Hybrid's 12-volt battery sits in the very back of the car, on the right side of the cargo area, which matches Toyota's owner's manual.

  • Where the hybrid battery is: They show that the hybrid battery in the RAV4 Hybrid sits under the back seat.
  • How often they replace one: Their service department handles about 6,000 repair jobs a month and replaces maybe one hybrid battery a month, usually in a second-generation Prius. As of October 2023, they hadn't seen the hybrid battery in a 2019 or newer RAV4 Hybrid need replacing.
  • Labor and price: They quote about 5 hours of labor on a Prius. And they say the RAV4 and Camry are almost in lock step with the Prius on battery and labor price.
  • Cell repairs: Fred Anderson Toyota doesn't replace individual cells, because the dealer can't guarantee that work.

Buddy's take

So ultimately, I wouldn't skip a used RAV4 Hybrid with 100,000 miles or more just because of the hybrid battery. The hybrid battery in a 2019 to 2025 RAV4 Hybrid is rarely what fails. And if the hybrid battery ever does fail, a new genuine Toyota battery is about $2,650 to $2,700 for the part, as of October 15, 2026.

So for me personally, I'd spend my time on the battery air filter and the in-service date for the battery warranty. And on a 2019 to 2024 RAV4 Hybrid AWD, I'd want proof that 22TE09 and 25TD01 are done. And if the RAV4 Hybrid's asking price looks good, paying for about an hour of a Toyota dealer's time for a hybrid system scan is cheap peace of mind.

But if you're looking at a used RAV4 Prime, I'd be a lot more careful, since the RAV4 Prime's battery part alone is about $12,555. So hopefully this guide helps you buy a used RAV4 Hybrid with a lot more confidence.

Have a question about “How long does a RAV4 Hybrid battery last? What to know before buying one with 100,000+ miles”?

Ask it here. Every question comes to me first. I answer as many as I can, and each answered question goes on this page with my answer so other RAV4 owners can see it too. I don't ask for your email, so check back on this page for the answer.
